Preston 0–1 Wigan – FA Cup Drama at Deepdale

Preston North End 0–1 Wigan Athletic – FA Cup Third Round drama at Deepdale

It’s been a tight cup tie at Deepdale. For large parts of the game Preston had the lion’s share of possession and looked the more proactive side early on, but Wigan have stuck to their game plan and struck the decisive blow in the second half.

After a largely scoreless first half where chances were at a premium and Preston pushed forward without finding the net, Harrison Bettoni broke the deadlock for Wigan in the 75th minute, giving the Latics the edge in this knockout clash.

Preston dominated territory and tried to force openings – their build‑up play and set‑pieces caused a few moments of danger – but Wigan’s defence held firm and they looked dangerous on the break. As the minutes ticked down, Preston pressed hard to find an equaliser, but couldn’t quite unlock the Wigan backline before full time.

This result books Wigan Athletic’s spot in the FA Cup Fourth Round, while Preston will be left reflecting on a game they controlled in spells but ultimately couldn’t turn into goals.
