On Saturday evening at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe faced off in one of Turkish football’s biggest fixtures – the Super Cup final between the city’s two fiercest rivals. This derby, often called the Intercontinental Derby because of its intensity and history, brought huge anticipation from fans across the country and beyond.
The match started under challenging weather conditions, with strong winds and rain expected, forcing a slight change in kick-off time to allow for better playing conditions.
From the first whistle, both teams threw themselves into the battle. Galatasaray looked to control the game with possession and creative build-ups, while Fenerbahçe were determined to press hard and take advantage of swift counter-attacks. The intensity was high throughout, as is typical in games between these two giants of Turkish football.
Fenerbahçe struck first with a goal from Matteo Guendouzi, giving them the lead and forcing Galatasaray to chase the game. The visitors continued to press, and late in the match Jayden Oosterwolde added a second, sealing a 2-0 win for Fenerbahçe and handing them the Super Cup trophy.
The victory was celebrated passionately by Fenerbahçe supporters, marking a successful moment in their season and adding silverware against their long–standing rivals.
